Broken Arrow Ranch wedding | Madison & Shane

I have been excited about Madison and Shane’s Broken Arrow Ranch wedding in College Station ever since I found out Madison was engaged! I’ve loved every wedding I’ve shot and every couple I’ve worked with has been fantastic. I love the relationships I form because of this career path I’ve taken, and seeing the relationship between family and friends during the wedding day. But working with Madison was extra special. Since having known her since I shot her high school senior photos, I was even more “invested” in her wedding. And I knew without a doubt, I would wind up bawling behind the camera on her wedding day.

Madison and Shane chose to have the wedding at Broken Arrow Ranch, which is outside College Station. It’s a new venue in the country with some great amenities like an outdoor pavilion for ceremonies, a lake, gorgeous tree lines, and they are in the process of building a wedding chapel on site. From the beginning, Madison knew she wanted an outdoor ceremony. The day of the wedding, it threatened rain for most of the day. In fact, there were a few instances where it started raining and we bolted inside Broken Arrow Ranch until it cleared and we could finish some of the formal portraits and the First Look before the ceremony.

So much thought went into Madison and Shane’s big day. The entire day was not only stunning with well thought out rustic details, but full of sentimental touches as well. The heart shaped table at the entrance of Broken Arrow Ranch was a handmade gift that Madison’s grandfather made for her. The album covers and photos of loved ones who are no longer present sat atop a door that came from Madison’s grandfather’s house. The boots that lined the ceremony aisle were Shane’s father’s boots (he was a police officer). The cowboy hats the flowergirls used to toss flower petals from were Shane’s dad’s hats as well. The rustic door walkway leading guests to the ceremony site was made by Madison’s dad. From it, hung a dreamcatcher that was made by Madison’s grandmother.

In the time I’ve known Madison, one thing I can say is that she is thoughtful. She remembers small details and makes the effort to show others that they matter. Knowing that, it shouldn’t have been any surprise when Madison told me she had a big surprise planned for her mom at the wedding. Madison flew her mom’s aunt in from Japan for the wedding as a surprise. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room when she revealed her great-aunt was present for the wedding!

I *loved* that Madison incorporated something from Shane’s military career as an Army Ranger into their wedding day!

Madison’s mom wrote a letter to both Madison and Shane each for their wedding day. It was such a thoughtful gesture and I know it will be something they each treasure.

Madison later told me that part of the letter mentioned her grandmother, who had passed away a few years ago. Madison had always been very close to her grandmother. She also shared that her grandmother’s home had burned down in a fire and one of the only things they had been able to get out and salvage were the pearls that Madison wore on her wedding day.

I love when couples opt to do a “First Look” before the wedding. Madison and Shane went one step further with something new that I hadn’t seen before: they each wrote private vows to each other and read them to each other during their first look. (This is such a great option for couples who really want to write their own vows but are reluctant about reading them in front of everyone during the ceremony!)

I loved the vintage chairs and sofas they put at the front of the ceremony for the immediate family, especially the old Victorian style sofa!

Poetry Springs wedding | Brooke & Chase

Brooke and Chase were married this fall at The Springs Event Center in Terrell. Their Poetry Springs wedding was planned for over a year and most of the decor elements were items that Brooke and her mom found at flea markets, etc.  Brooke and Chase chose purple, gold, and blush for their wedding colors. The style was a combination of vintage, found in the details like the antique bike they used to direct people to the ceremony location, and glam, with mason jars coated with gold glitter for the candles they used on the reception tables.

Although I’ve shot at several of The Springs wedding venues, this was my first time shooting a Poetry Springs wedding. I have to admit, it’s probably my favorite location of all The Springs venues so far. It’s very remote, and the ceremony site is surrounded with lush greenery. The light right before the ceremony was absolute perfection for their photos!

I first met Brooke a few years ago when I shot her sister’s wedding. When Brooke reached out to me, I was not only thrilled, but honored to be trusted with another family wedding. I even remember Brooke grabbing my arm at her sister’s wedding to tell me that when it was time for her and Chase to get married, that I would hear from her.

Chase and Brooke have been together since high school, and remained together even after Chase went away to college. There is a great rapport between Brooke and Chase. He has a great skill for teasing Brooke and making her laugh over really silly things. I loved seeing the relationship between the two of them, and the way their friends and family support their relationship and their marriage.

I’ve always loved Betsey Johnson’s sense of style, all the way  back in the days when her designed were used for for Sex and The City. But these wedding shoes that Brooke wore— they were exquisite! They had just the right balance of delicate glam

Fall Farmhouse Wedding | Chelsea & Brandon

1899 Farmhouse bride and groom portrait in nature

Chelsea and Brandon had a fall farmhouse wedding at 1899 Farmhouse. I first met Chelsea about 2 weeks before their fall Farmhouse wedding and when she described the exact location for the ceremony out at the 1899 Farmhouse, I was excited to shoot their wedding! I’ve shot countless weddings at 1899 Farmhouse, and in recent years, several of the weddings have chosen the gazebo as the ceremony spot. Each time, I’ve thought to myself how utterly gorgeous it would be to have the ceremony next to the gazebo instead of in front of it. It’s such a subtle change, but what a huge difference it made for Chelsea and Brandon’s wedding photos. The background of the ceremony then becomes the wooded forest with the full green trees, and the aisle is angled to show the reception pavilion in the background instead of the parking lot when the bride walks down the aisle. The trees surrounding the Farmhouse are magnificent and have always been one of my favorite features of the property.

Chelsea and Brandon opted for a small, simple wedding, and everything turned out beautifully. They opted to skip having a bridal party, which gave the ceremony an intimate feel since they flowergirl and ring bearer were their children.  They chose to skip a few of the traditional reception activities in order to spend time with their family and friends, which kept everything feeling like a family affair.

Chelsea and her best friend Lacey were busting their tails all morning to set things up. From putting together the aisle flowers to setting up each table, they handled it all on their own. They both did a fantastic job with all of the DIY details Chelsea put together! One of my favorite details were the succulent wedding favors they had for everyone. I loved how everything had a cohesive wild, natural feel to it.
